Our Company

GeoEnviro Services, Inc. (GESI) is comprised of a team of experienced professional geologists, engineers and supporting staff who take pride in providing a broad spectrum of services ranging from historical research, to boots-on-the ground data collection, to the development and implementation of complex engineering strategies for removal of hazardous substances from subsurface soils and groundwater. 

GESI is a State of California licensed and insured Engineering A – Hazardous Materials Removal Contractor (License No. 857083) serving clients throughout California from offices in Ventura County and San Diego, California.   

All of our field active staff are 40-hour trained in Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) per California Occupational and Safety Administration (OSHA), Title 8 CCR 5192 and Federal OSHA, Title 29 CFR 1910.120.  GESI staff maintain annual 8-hour HAZWOPER refresher updates.

Principal Geologist, President

Joseph Schaaf a CA licensed Professional Geologist and Certified Hydrogeologist and has received an MS in Geology from CSU, Northridge and a BS in Earth Science from SUNY, Stony Brook.  Mr. Schaaf has over 25 years professional experience performing environmental and geologic studies.  Mr. Schaaf specializes in assessment and remediation of soils and groundwater impacted by petroleum hydrocarbons, chlorinated solvents, toxic pesticides and metals.  Mr. Schaaf works closely with clients and regulatory agencies to develop specific project scopes and is responsible for oversight and execution of work tasks through completion and regulatory closure.

Senior Geologist

Ryan Shafer is a CA Licensed Professional Geologist and received a BS in Geology UC Santa Barbara.  Mr. Shafer has over 20 years professional experience performing environmental, geologic and health and safety studies in commercial and industrial settings, with emphasis in assessment and remediation of soil and groundwater.  Mr. Shafer works closely with GESI’s clients, develops scope of work and budgets, provides hands-on field services from data collection to equipment operation, oversees data evaluation and project completion, develops and maintains cooperative regulatory agency and contractor relationships and seeks out new projects and industry developments.

Staff Geologist

Lilian Cortez received a BS in Geology from California State University, Northridge. She has over 1.5 years of experience in environmental site assessment and remediation.  Ms. Cortez is trained in geologic logging, sample collection, soil vapor sampling, indoor air sampling, and field supervision of drilling activities including monitoring well and vapor probe installations.  Ms. Cortez other skills include laboratory data evaluation, preparation of data tables in excel, preparation of project maps and contour maps, and project reporting.  Ms. Cortez is 40 hr. OSHA HazMat Health and Safety trained.  

Document Editor / Analyst

Deborah Schaaf was previously employed by a law firm and is experienced in communications, administration, and project quality assurance.  Ms. Schaaf is an experienced document editor and is responsible for project report QC review and editing.  Ms. Schaaf other responsibilities include company administrative and management duties.
